About
André—a hedonistic adman, father of two teenage girls, and perennial stoner—has made humor and stoicism his life philosophy. When he is diagnosed with stage four colon cancer, he decides to make a movie about it. André’s routine remains seemingly unchanged, except his weed habit and macabre sense of humor suddenly become necessary for his survival. Meanwhile, his wife remains radically optimistic—a stance rooted largely in denial—and continues to be his steady emotional anchor. As the side effects of chemotherapy intensify, André continues to direct his own exit. Using stop-motion animation, raw confessions, and absurd situations, he tackles the taboos surrounding terminal illness, turns his fatal error into a creative, cliché-free awareness campaign, and chooses sick humor over succumbing to the sickness. This Sundance Audience Award winner is a wild docu-comedy that opens hearts and settles scores, just as André is about to leave the building, slamming the door behind him.
